This position also ensures the continuance of the education program developed by the teacher. Qualifications: High School diploma or GED, required Experience working with students with special needs, specifically behavior/emotional support, preferred Comfortability providing both academic and behavioral support to students Must have or obtain and maintain a current certificate in first aid Must have or obtain and maintain a current certificate in CPR Must have or obtain and maintain certificate in LIU-approved crisis management and intervention program, preferred Relevant experience working with students in an educational setting, preferred Patience, flexibility, and positive attitude Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with teachers and staff Must complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to assignment each year (July 1-June 30) to continue employment. Must obtain "qualified" status within one (1) year from date of hire "Qualified" means meeting a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a local or state assessment Certificate of Competency – free of cost and can be acquired on the job OR CAPE test OR having an associate's degree or higher OR having completed 2 years (48 credits) of postsecondary study. Terms of Employment: Full-time, 7 hours/day, 188 days/year (follows traditional school year schedule) Salary: Starting $18/hr plus experience and excellent benefits The LIU offers a generous benefits package to full-time employees, including: Medical (for a nominal premium), dental and vision insurance.
