Clinical Laboratory Technologist – Cytogenetics | Full-Time Contract | Hospital Setting | Stony Brook, NY Location: Stony Brook, NY Setting: Hospital – Cytogenetics Laboratory Job Type: Full-Time Contract Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Pay Rate: $43–$48/hour Job Summary A hospital-based cytogenetics laboratory is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technologist with Cytogenetics and FISH experience for a full-time contract role supporting constitutional and acquired chromosomal testing. Responsibilities Perform sterile tissue culture techniques for human specimens including amniotic fluid, peripheral blood, bone marrow, products of conception, tumors, and lymph nodes Conduct microscopic analysis of banded chromosome preparations Perform karyotyping to determine chromosomal complements and abnormalities Execute FISH protocols and microscopic analysis including cancer probes, CEP, LSI probes, and direct amniocentesis Perform chromosome banding techniques including Giemsa-Trypsin, NOR, C-banding, and fluorescent staining Capture and analyze digital images of stained and fluorescent chromosomes and nuclei Complete tissue culture setup, harvest procedures, and FISH setup and analysis Utilize Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and maintain accurate documentation Maintain compliance with laboratory quality and safety standards Requirements Active NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist license Minimum 1 year of Cytogenetics and FISH experience required Experience with tissue culture, karyotyping, and chromosome analysis Familiarity with LIS-related tasks Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Why This Role If you’re an experienced Clinical Laboratory Technologist with cytogenetics expertise seeking a weekday hospital role with consistent hours and competitive pay, this position offers a strong opportunity to apply specialized skills in a structured clinical environment. #INDEEDTH Job Types: Full-time, Contract Pay: $43.00 - $48.00 per hour Benefits: 401(k) Health insurance Paid time off Referral program Application Question(s): What email and phone number should the employer use to contact you?
