Medical Physicist (Qualified Medical Physicist - QMP)
Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) We are seeking a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) to provide comprehensive medical physics services to the Cheyenne River Health Center. This is a non-personal services contract role, where the physicist operates independently under the contractor and is not supervised by the government. The role involves ensuring the safety, compliance, and optimal performance of diagnostic imaging equipment, while supporting clinical operations through testing, inspections, and quality assurance programs.Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance & Radiation Safety Ensure compliance with all applicable standards, including: ACR (American College of Radiology), TJC (The Joint Commission), MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act), OSHA (29 CFR 1910.1096)Immediately report unsafe conditions to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)Conduct radiation safety audits and support facility compliance programsEquipment Inspections & Performance Evaluations Perform annual inspections (not exceeding 14 months) for: X-ray systems, CT scanners, ultrasound units, digital radiography systemsConduct inspections after: equipment repairs or modifications, installation or relocation of systemsComplete acceptance testing for all new equipment prior to clinical useQuality Assurance & Testing Develop and maintain a comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) programPerform detailed physics evaluations including radiation output and exposure measurements, image quality and system performance, dose monitoring and calibrationReview CT protocols annuallyMonitor exposure indices and repeat/reject analysisReporting & Documentation Deliver detailed inspection reports in PDF format within 30 daysCommunicate deficiencies immediately to Biomedical Engineering, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)Provide corrective recommendations and follow-up assessmentsSpecialized Services Provide shielding design calculations in compliance with NCRP Report No. 147Conduct shielding verification surveysReview dosimetry reports and provide safety consultationAssist with staff training and radiation safety guidanceEquipment Coverage CT Scanner (Cannon Aquillion 64)Fixed X-ray (Siemens)Portable X-ray (Shimadzu)Digital Radiography (Konica Minolta)Ultrasound Systems (GE)Performance Requirements Complete urgent inspections (post-repair) within 72 hours when requiredEnsure all work meets ACR, MQSA, and regulatory standardsCorrect errors or deficiencies at no additional costMaintain high-quality documentation and compliance recordsQualifications Required: Certification as a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) by one of the following: American Board of Radiology (ABR), American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM)Demonstrated experience in diagnostic imaging physicsPreferred: Experience in hospital or clinical environmentsKnowledge of ACR, MQSA, and NCRP standardsExperience with CT, radiography, and ultrasound systemsPosition Summary This role is critical to ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and optimal imaging performance within the healthcare facility. The Medical Physicist will act as a key technical authority, supporting both clinical operations and safety programs.
