Lead Diesel Mechanic- Danville
Lead diesel mechanics oversee the work of the other mechanics. Assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensure that work is completed efficiently and effectively.
Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; adjusting and alignments; keeping records
Determine the vehicles condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests: identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing components and part upgrades.
Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
Verifies vehicle performance by conducting tests, driving, adjusting controls, and systems.
Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors
Possess, provide and maintain tools necessary to perform tasks related to maintenance
Maintain a working knowledge of and keep up with the latest technology using technical manuals and attendance of technical training seminars and testing
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading

First Piedmont Corporation, a full service waste hauling and recycling company is in search of a Lead Diesel Mechanic position for our Danville location.
The Lead Diesel Mechanic supervises shop personnel, inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains diesel-powered vehicles and equipment and supervises and coordinates the work of other mechanics, ensuring timely and quality repairs. They perform a wide range of tasks, including diagnosing engine problems, repairing or replacing parts, and conducting preventative maintenance. This role often involves working on heavy vehicles like commercial trucks and heavy-duty construction equipment. The Lead Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for overseeing preventative maintenance, coordinating repairs, assigning daily tasks to mechanics, ensuring safety compliance and maintaining repair records.
High School Diploma or GED
Prior experience in the repair of commercial vehicles and heavy equipment
Valid Driver's License with excellent driving record
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Preferred
Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety sensitive functions according to Company standards Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job
Possess physical ability to perform all aspects of job

Valid Virginia State Inspection License preferred.
