JOB TITLE: Exceptional Childrens TeacherREPORTS TO: PrincipalSALARY: Salary Teacher Salary ScaleSTATUS: 10 monthsSUMMARY: The job Special Education Teacher was established to plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The employer will create a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities such that the student will benefit from the general education curriculum supported with supplemental aids, accommodations, and other needed support.RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:Follow all board policies and procedures and to comply with instructions and/or directives from his/her supervisor(s).Follow all state and federal policies and procedures for the provision of Exceptional Children's services (including: referral, eligibility, and services)Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturityDevelop (with the IEP team) and implement an Individual Educational Program for each assigned childProvide self-contained, resource, or inclusion services for assigned studentsEstablishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activitiesAssess academic and social growth of studentsKeep appropriate recordsComplete all paperwork assigned in a timely manner and follow federal timelines as requiredProvides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/district policies, goals, and objectivesCollaborate with general education staff to insure the implementation of IEPs in the general education classroom, monitor student progress, and plan for classroom accommodations, modifications and resource lessonsCommunicates with parents through a variety of meansHolds parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress and school initiativesCreate a safe and welcoming classroom climate and a community based on respect and democratic principlesMaintains professional competence through in-service professional development provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university coursesParticipates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated with the district guidelinesSelects instructional materialsSupervises students during in/out of class activitiesParticipates in faculty and/or district committeesActively participates in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)Attend EC team meetings-Division meetingsSchedule IEP meetings in a timely manner with the parents and IEP team membersPerform non-instructional duties as scheduled to maintain the safety of students and the appearance of the school (traffic duty, clean-up work area, etc)Maintain confidentialityInform EC Director of any concerns, issues or potential issues with ECMINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Bachelor's degree from an approved education program in subject areaN C Teaching license or have qualifications to obtain a N C teaching licenseKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Skilled in assessment and disaggregating data for teaching and learningAbility to meet the needs of all learnersAbility to plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instructionAbility to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the factsAbility to develop and compile records and reportsMust be able to use a variety of technology devices such as computers, copiers, calculators, etcAbility to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or thingAbility to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
