Senior Disability Adviser
Overview
We are seeking an experienced disability practitioner to join University of the Arts London (UAL) as a Senior Disability Adviser. You will contribute to high-quality advice delivery for disabled students and support the university to meet its duties under the Equality Act 2010. You will work with other Advice Managers to oversee the Disability Advice team, develop effective procedures, and realise the disability strategic plan. Your work will be informed by the social model of disability, and you will manage a student caseload, identifying and coordinating individual adjustments that remove barriers to study, as well as provide consultancy for colleagues on inclusive teaching and learning practices.
Responsibilities
Contribute to high-quality advice delivery for disabled students and support compliance with the Equality Act 2010.
Work with Advice Managers to oversee the Disability Advice team, develop effective procedures, and implement the disability strategic plan.
Manage a student caseload, identify and coordinate individual adjustments to remove barriers to study.
Provide consultancy to colleagues on inclusive teaching and learning practices.
Qualifications
First degree, or the Certificate in Applied Advice Work, NVQ Level III Advice and Guidance, NADP Accreditation, or an equivalent qualification.
Experience of professional advice work and line management.
Thorough understanding of the social model of disability, the Equality Act 2010, and how these apply to Higher and Further Education contexts.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present information accessibly to a range of audiences.
Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team, building positive relationships with colleagues and students.
