Source One Technical Solutions is helping our client find an Energy Efficiency Auditor / Engineer to support the development of HVAC-driven energy efficiency projects across New Jersey utility programs.This role combines building system evaluation, energy auditing, and incentive program engineering. The position plays a key role in translating building conditions into technically compliant incentive applications and supporting project development from audit through program approval.The successful candidate will work closely with internal sales teams, external engineering partners, contractors, and utility program administrators. Work focuses on leveraging utility incentiveprograms to support upgrades to building systems—particularly HVAC equipment, controls,and related infrastructure.Works closely with building owners, contractors, and utility program administrators tostructure projects that meet technical program requirements and maximize availableincentives.Core ResponsibilitiesEnergy Auditing & System EvaluationConduct commercial building energy audits with emphasis on HVAC systemsEvaluate existing mechanical systems including RTUs, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, and controlsDocument system conditions and gather technical data required for incentive applicationsIdentify potential equipment upgrade opportunitiesIncentive Program EngineeringStructure projects to align with utility energy efficiency program requirementsPerform savings calculations and prepare technical documentationAssist with development of incentive applications and technical workpapersInterpret program rules, TRMs, and eligibility requirementsProject Development SupportWork with internal sales teams to develop technically viable project scopesEvaluate replacement equipment options and system configurationsSupport development of projects that optimize incentive eligibility and ROIProgram Documentation & CompliancePrepare and review documentation required for program submissions including technicalcalculations, workpapers, and incentive applicationsSupport responses to program administrator comments and technical reviewsCross-Functional CoordinationCollaborate with sales teams, contractors, and external engineering partnersSupport projects from early audit stage through incentive approvalRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or related field) or equivalent in experience)Experience with commercial HVAC systemsExperience with energy efficiency programs or utility incentive programsStrong technical documentation and analytical skillsAbility to interpret technical program requirements and engineering calculationsPreferred ExperienceCandidates with experience in any of the following environments are strongly preferred:Utility companies (electric or gas)Energy efficiency program administratorsEngineering or energy consulting firmsHVAC controls companiesESCOs or energy services providersExperience with New Jersey energy efficiency programs such as NJCEP, Pay for Performance, Direct Install, DSM programs, or Measurement & Verification (M&V) is highly desirable.Technical Knowledge AreasCommercial HVAC systems (RTUs, boilers, chillers, heat pumps)Building Automation Systems (BAS / BMS)Commissioning and building systems evaluationEnergy savings calculationsUtility incentive documentationTRM-based savings methodologiesTechnical program workpapersLocation RequirementCandidate must be located in New Jersey or within commuting distance.
