System Administrator Consultant

Role Summary The System Administrator will provide advanced system administration and infrastructure support as part of a consulting team supporting a government agency environment. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of on-premises, virtual, and cloud-based server environments, including Active Directory, VMware, and hybrid cloud platforms. The position requires a self-sufficient professional capable of resolving complex server and infrastructure issues while ensuring system availability, performance, and compliance in a regulated public-sector setting. Responsibilities Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot server environments, including data, file, web, print, and application servers. Administer and maintain Active Directory, including domain services, user accounts, group policies, and access controls. Provide advanced support for virtualized environments, including VMware ESXi/ESX and associated infrastructure. Install, configure, monitor, and maintain on-premises and cloud-based servers, including Microsoft Azure and AWS environments. Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity; diagnose and resolve complex server and infrastructure issues. Implement and validate security patches, firmware updates, and software updates across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Support the administration and maintenance of SharePoint servers, when applicable. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software solutions for data center and infrastructure operations. Maintain accurate system documentation, configurations, and operational procedures. Collaborate with network and security teams to ensure secure, stable, and compliant system operations. Required Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of experience in system administration or a related infrastructure role. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent professional experience. MCSE certification or equivalent technical certification (preferred). Technical Skills & Technologies Strong hands-on experience with: Windows Server Microsoft Azure (infrastructure and system services) VMware HP, Dell, and IBM Blade server platforms Experience with endpoint and system management tools, including ManageEngine Desktop Central. Familiarity with backup, recovery, and virtualization best practices. Experience supporting systems in regulated or high-availability environments (preferred).
