Dietitian (Advanced Practice)

This position is located in Nutrition and Food Services (NFS), VISN 1 VA Health Care System in Worcester, Central Western Massachusetts. The Primary responsibilities of the Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (AP, RD/CDCES) includes serving as a subject matter expert in nutrition and diabetes and overseeing the medical nutrition therapy of the most complex and/or high-risk Veteran patients.The Advanced Practice Level Dietician, Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (AP, RD/CDCES) conducts comprehensive nutrition assessments for Veterans using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) assuring high-quality nutrition care under an advanced and expanded scope of practice.Duties include, but are not limited to:Leads dietitians and specialty multidisciplinary teams in developing nutrition related services, policies, procedures and/or protocols.Provides comprehensive medical nutritional care applying the NCP in a specialty program, and/or a variety of patient care settings. Bases individualized nutrition interventions on the best available research and/or evidence-based guidelines and best practices.Provides nutrition education to individuals, small and large groups, peers, licensed practitioner(s), medical students, interns, and residents as applicable.Provides consultative services regarding advanced therapies, policies, procedures, and research in the provision of quality nutritional care.Develops, monitors, and directs practice-specific benchmarks based on standards of care or national initiatives.Utilizes knowledge, expertise, principles and/or current research to plan, implement and evaluate organizational initiatives.Leads the implementation of new nutrition initiatives or a change in practice to achieve strategic goals.Establishes goals, measures outcomes and reports progress toward meeting goals to medical center committees, health care teams and/or professional groups.Leads staff, creates, and validates competencies and develops training activities.Leads nutrition research studies or performance improvement and communicates findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and/or peer-reviewed professional publications.Presents at seminars, workshops, and lectures to convey current nutrition information on new and changing concepts.May perform other related duties as assigned which are appropriate for this grade and assignment.Work Schedule:40 Hours a week, Monday- Friday,8:00am- 4:30pm, ESTTelework- Ad-HOC, at discretion of Supervisor.Virtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #:F04855Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases . When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
