Job TypeFull-time, Part-time Description Why Bogus Basin?Bogus Basin is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit mountain recreation area located 16 miles from Boise. We provide accessible, affordable outdoor recreation, education, and community programming year-round. Every dollar earned is reinvested back into the mountain, our people, and the community we serve. The Brush Cutter supports vegetation management, trail access, water system access, fire mitigation, and general mountain maintenance by clearing brush, weeds, limbs, and overgrowth across Bogus Basin's recreation and operations areas. This physically demanding role uses hand tools and powered brush-cutting equipment in steep, uneven, and rugged terrain. Ideal candidates are safety-minded, reliable, comfortable working outdoors, and prepared for repetitive manual labor in a mountain environment. Position OverviewThe Brush Cutter role supports seasonal mountain preparation and maintenance work, with a focus on clearing vegetation from trails, drainage features, water bars, roadsides, signage, infrastructure access points, and other operational areas. Work may include operating weed trimmers, brush saws, chainsaws, loppers, hand tools, and related equipment; loading and transporting tools; documenting progress; and reporting hazards or environmental concerns. This role is labor-intensive and requires regular outdoor work in changing weather. Weekend and holiday availability may be required based on operational needs. This is a seasonal position. Essential Duties Clear brush, weeds, limbs, and overgrowth from trails, water bars, roadsides, access routes, signage areas, drainage systems, and other mountain infrastructure. Operate brush-cutting tools such as weed trimmers, brush saws, chainsaws, loppers, hand saws, and related hand tools. Maintain and improve visibility and access to drainage systems, signs, water management features, trails, and operational infrastructure. Assist with erosion control, slope stabilization, debris removal, and basic trail maintenance tasks. Safely load, transport, clean, fuel, and maintain tools and equipment. Follow all safety protocols and properly use required personal protective equipment. Identify and report hazards, maintenance needs, environmental concerns, damaged infrastructure, or unsafe conditions to supervisors. Record daily progress and communicate completed work, issues, and needs to leads or supervisors. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas for guests, staff, and other departments. Support other Mountain Operations work as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements RequirementsMust be at least 18 years old. Previous experience with brush cutting, landscaping, trail maintenance, forestry, land management, construction, or outdoor labor preferred. Able to safely use or learn to use manual and powered brush-cutting tools. Able to work outdoors in changing mountain weather including heat, cold, rain, smoke, dust, and snow. Able to walk, stand, bend, lift, and perform physically demanding manual labor for extended periods. Able to work on steep, uneven, loose, or off-camber terrain. Able to frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds or more. Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team. Professional, safety-minded, and able to follow directions and communication protocols. Valid driver's license with reliable transportation preferred. Available to work weekends, holidays, and variable schedules as needed. Ability to complete a background check. Preferred QualificationsExperience using brush saws, weed trimmers, chainsaws, loppers, hand saws, and other vegetation management tools is preferred. Trail maintenance, forestry, landscaping, fire mitigation, erosion control, or outdoor labor experience is highly valued. On-the-job training is available for candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn safe tool use and mountain work practices. Working Conditions & Required GearThis position is performed primarily outdoors in rugged mountain environments with exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, smoke, dust, mud, noise, vibration, sharp tools, vegetation, and steep or uneven terrain. Brush Cutters are expected to report to work presentable, in uniform when required, and prepared for outdoor labor. Required gear includes sturdy hiking or work boots, durable work gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, sun protection, weather-appropriate clothing, and any additional PPE required for assigned tools or tasks.
