We are proud of our world-class faculty, groundbreaking research and international reputation for excellence in sustainability, community engagement and innovation.Position SummaryThe Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SPHR) at Portland State University is seeking well-qualified applicants for a non-tenure track position at the Assistant Clinical Professor level, beginning September 16, 2026. This core SPHR faculty member will provide academic and clinical instruction primarily in the area of adult medical speech-language pathology. This is a 1.0 FTE 9-month position with full benefits.The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA). SPHR graduate and undergraduate students meet pre-professional requirements as required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This appointment is for individuals who are licensed and certified professionals or practitioners recognized in the field of adult medical speech-language pathology. Applicants must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and either hold or be eligible for Oregon state licensure.Responsibilities include academic and clinical instruction primarily in the following areas: Clinical coordination and supervision, including related seminars for speech-language pathology graduate students related to medical adult clinic populations. Undergraduate and/or graduate academic teaching. Instruction includes up to five courses per year related to adult and/or pediatric medical speech and language pathology topics.Perform regular university and departmental administrative and service duties, including committee work, graduate selection, comprehensive exam review, advising, curriculum/program development, graduation and orientation events, and professionally related community engagement.QualificationsPrimary Activity I - Instructional Minimum QualificationsEarned master’s degree in speech-language pathologyA minimum of six years post-certification professional experienceMinimum of four years, broad-scope clinical speech-language pathology experience in a medical settingASHA Certificate of Clinical CompetenceOregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology license (or eligible for licensure upon hire)Eligibility to provide supervision under ASHA and Oregon rulesDemonstrated competence providing diagnosis and treatment across at least one major practice area of medical speech language pathologyPreferred QualificationsPriority Will Be Given To Those Candidates Who HaveTerminal degree in Speech Language Pathology or related field (e.g., Ph.D, Ed.D, clinical doctorate)Experience in clinical instruction, mentoring, or supervision in a healthcare/educational setting.Knowledge of and ability to comply with HIPPA/FERPA, mandated reporting, and professional ethics (ASHA Code of Ethics)One year of clinical supervision of graduate speech-language pathology students from an accredited institutionAbility to provide bilingual servicesKey Cultural CompetenciesCreate an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.Seek opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.Adhere to all of PSU’s policies including the policies on Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment and the Professional Standards of Conduct.Environmental Stewardship Professional Standards of ConductAt Portland State University, all employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner which maintains a safe, respectful, and productive environment for faculty, students, administrators, and staff.
