Controls Engineer

futuraTexas City, TXMay 19th, 2026
Roles based across Texas and the US. Our client is standing hyperscale AI data centers across the US, and the controls layer BMS, EPMS, PLC, equipment-level is what keeps the lights on, the air cold, and the power clean 24/7. They need a Controls Engineer who lives at the intersection of field technician and engineer: equally comfortable calibrating a sensor in a mechanical yard, navigating a BMS front-end, or programming a PLC against a Sequence of Operations. This is a mid-level role designed for someone in transition a strong controls technician ready to grow into engineering, or an early-career controls engineer who doesn't want to leave the field behind. You'll work closely with Central Engineering and Operations to keep critical systems running reliably while contributing to sequence development, commissioning, deployments, integration, and documentation.**What you'll do**— Run preventive and corrective maintenance on BMS/BAS controllers, field devices, sensors, actuators, and control panels — and keep the as-builts accurate as you go.— Diagnose and resolve BMS, EPMS, and equipment-level control faults using front-end software and field tools — multimeters, loop calibrators, clamp meters.— Navigate and configure BMS platforms (Ignition, Metasys, Niagara, EcoStruxure): point mapping, alarm configuration, setpoint adjustments, graphics updates.— Support PLC/HMI troubleshooting, PID loop tuning, and trend log analysis. Work across the integration layer between BMS, EPMS, DCIM, and equipment controls over BACnet, Modbus, and SNMP.— Execute commissioning: point-to-point verification, loop calibration, functional performance testing, and documentation for new construction and retrofit work.— Operate inside the safety and change management envelope — NFPA 70E, site LOTO, MOPs, CMMS documentation. No shortcuts.**What we're looking for**— 3–5 years hands-on in building automation, controls, or instrumentation — commercial, industrial, or mission-critical.— Working command of at least one major BMS/BAS platform. Ignition preferred; EcoStruxure, Metasys, or Niagara also strong.— Fluent in BACnet IP/MSTP and Modbus TCP/RTU.— Able to read and interpret control drawings, wiring schematics, P&IDs, one-lines, and equipment data sheets. Comfortable with field test and calibration tools.— Familiar with HVAC Sequences of Operations, NEC wiring requirements, NFPA 70E, and LOTO/LOTOTO.— Strong documentation habits and the discipline to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.— Associate's or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, Building Automation, or related field or equivalent vocational training plus directly relevant experience.**Bonus points**— Tier III or Tier IV data center / colocation experience.— PLC programming chops — Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, or equivalent.— EPMS platform experience (Schneider PME, Eaton Power Xpert) and DCIM tools.— CMMS work in Maximo, SAP PM, or ServiceNow.
