Research Computing Software Engineer
Overview
In this role you will develop and maintain software for research computing in HPC and cloud environments, enabling advanced data analysis for our research community. You will lead a team of engineers and researchers within VDS/ARL to deliver integrated tools that support the sponsor-driven mission. The work blends software engineering with performance optimization and infrastructure integration in a security-conscious setting. This is a chance to impact computational research at scale and contribute to DoD-relevant projects.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop, deploy, enhance, and maintain software applications for research computing needsImplement efficient algorithms to handle large datasets and complex computationsWrite clean, documented, maintainable code using modern programming languagesIntegrate software with existing research computing infrastructure, including cloud platformsCollaborate with engineers and researchers to ensure seamless tool functionalityAnalyze and optimize software performance to meet high computational demandsIdentify and address bottlenecks, memory usage, and technical challengesProvide technical support and troubleshooting to researchersCreate and maintain documentation for software toolsStay updated with advancements in software engineering and computational research technologiesLead or participate in software development projects including planning, testing, and deployment (higher level)Manage project timelines, deliverables, and milestones (higher level)May supervise staff including hiring and performance management (higher level)
