CFPA was founded as Hollywood Senior Center in 1973, a nonprofit committed to creating an uplifting and vibrant environment for adults 55 and older while providing a channel for intergenerational relationships and learning. In July 2021, HSC expanded by absorbing The Giving Tree, another not-for-profit organization, committed to providing residential services to people living in affordable housing, including access to culturally-specific food, throughout Portland; merger of these two organizations form CFPA.,FRONT DESK/RECEPTION VOLUNTEER Serve as the first point-of-contact for our senior center and welcome participants as they arrive. Sign participants up for activities, answer calls, and support with administrative and guest relations assistance at the Community for Positive Aging.BenefitsBe a part of a dynamic team helping enrich the lives of older adults and Portland area residents in affordable housing units. Opportunity to meet new people and build relationships with fellow volunteers, staff, and CFPA participants.Provide important direct service to help individuals we serve achieve healthy aging and live independently.DUTIES & ACTIVITIESGreet and assist participants as they arrive for programs and appointments or inquire about assistanceHelp participants check in electronically using MySeniorCenter, welcome new participants to the center, collect registration forms, and distribute keycardsAnswer phone calls to HSC’s main phone line, check messages, and return calls in order to connect individuals with the appropriate staff or resourcesAssist with receiving food and durable medical equipment donations to the center as well as assisting guests access durable medical equipment Assist with outgoing calls to assist staff with scheduling appointments, collecting information, passing along information, and more as needed.Qualifications & SkillsHigh degree of reliabilityFriendly, outgoing demeanor and excellent customer skillsBasic familiarity with telephone and computer equipment (e.g., phone messaging, email)Ability to listen and communicate effectivelyGood decision making skills and ability to multitaskCommitment to CFPA’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equity, and inclusionTIME COMMITMENT Weekly 4 hours shift, morning or afternoon, Monday - Friday (8 30-12 30 or 12 30-4 30)LOCATION Hollywood Senior CenterOUR MISSION Community for Positive Aging is a caring and healthy organization that encourages intergenerational relationships, recognizes the wisdom and experience of its elders, and demonstrates awareness and respect for the aging process.
