Cemetery Operations Trainee

Job Summary Bet Olam Cemetery is seeking a reliable, hardworking Cemetery Operations Trainee to learn all aspects of cemetery grounds care, funeral preparation, equipment operation, and daily site maintenance. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys outdoor work, wants steady full‑time employment, and is interested in developing future leadership skills. Responsibilities · Mow, trim, edge, and maintain cemetery grounds. · Perform leaf cleanup, snow removal, and seasonal landscape work. · Plant flowers, spray for weeds, rake, and maintain landscaping areas. · Clean and maintain buildings, restrooms, equipment bays, and walkways. · Set up funeral equipment including greens, tents, plywood, and lowering devices. · Assist with burial site marking, preparation, and cleanup. · Work respectfully around grieving families and religious practices. · Operate mowers, blowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and other tools. · Assist with routine equipment maintenance including oil changes and filter replacements. · Clean tools and vehicles after use; ensure equipment is secured daily. · Help open and close cemetery gates. · Assist visitors and support basic office or phone tasks when needed. What You Will Learn · Day‑to‑day cemetery operations and workflow. · Safe operation and maintenance of grounds equipment. · Proper funeral setup procedures and respectful handling of religious customs. · Communication with funeral homes, vendors, and visitors. · Leadership, teamwork, and conflict‑resolution skills. · Supply management and basic facility maintenance processes. Requirements · Valid driver’s license. · Ability to lift 100 lbs. and perform continuous physical labor. · Comfort working outdoors year‑round in all weather conditions. · Willingness to bend, kneel, walk long distances, and stand for long periods. · Comfort using or learning to use power tools and landscaping equipment. · Respectful and professional behavior during funeral services. · Flexible availability for occasional early mornings, late days, weekends, and holidays. · Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions. Preferred (Not Required) · Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, construction, or outdoor labor. · Mechanical aptitude for equipment care. Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week Benefits: Health insurance Paid time off Work Location: In person
