Dental Hygienist - Clinical Instructor of Surgical Services - Periodontics

Creighton University School of Dentistry (CUSOD) is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist to support and develop the didactic and clinical periodontal curriculum of the school and will provide dental students with a broad spectrum of experiences in the treatment of the dental patient within an educational setting.Primary appointment will be in the Department of Surgical Services which includes the specialties of periodontics and oral surgery. Academic rank will be Clinical Instructor with salary based upon qualifications.This is a full time, benefit eligible, non-tenure-track position serving 7.5 Half days per week over 52 weeks with CUSOD performance guidelines for Clinician Educator - Non-Tenure Track. You will work with a team of dedicated faculty and leaders who are building on a rich legacy of excellence in dental education and expanding our capacity as a national resource for the dental profession. Primary appointment will be in the department of Periodontics.Position responsibilities include: Instruct dental students in their evaluation of patients’ periodontal classification and caries risk; consult with students on appropriate treatment and follow-up care; work collaboratively with students and DDS faculty in development of appropriate treatment plan(s) for comprehensive patient care; instruct and evaluate dental students on scaling (removal of calculus and biofilm), patient education, and quality of care; instruct dental students on the proper use of dental instruments; instruct dental students on patient counseling strategies including smoking cessation, nutrition; the use of adjunctive oral hygiene aids and assist dental students in Board preparations during the spring and summer terms as well as instruct freshman and sophomore dental students in the Periodontics preclinical laboratories; monitor infection control and adhere to reporting standards such as following OSHA, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines and during the spring and summer terms, instruct first and second year dental students in the preclinical periodontal labs.RequiredCandidates must possess and maintain an unrestricted Nebraska Dental Hygiene License.Candidates must also possess strong organizational and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a collegial, interdisciplinary environment.Preferred QualificationsFive years' clinical dental hygiene experience.Familiarity with PowerPoint and other educational tools and course content platforms.Prior experience in an educational setting, demonstrating the ability to foster student learning, development and decision making.How To ApplyCandidates should submit their application through InterfolioThe Complete Application Must IncludeCover LetterCV or ResumeIf a candidate is called for an interview, they may be asked to provide one or all of the following:Original academic transcripts from all institutions of higher education attendedLetters of recommendation, at least two of which should speak to the candidate’s teaching abilityStatement of teaching philosophy as it applies to dental educationMake formal presentation to faculty body a sample of scholarly activityThe School of Dentistry provides an exceptional education in an unrivaled clinical learning environment and is an integral component of Creighton University, a dynamic and growing institution located in Omaha, Nebraska.
