Personal Property Tax AnalystThe Personal Property Tax Analyst reports directly to the Indirect Tax Manager and is responsible for managing and supporting the company's personal property tax compliance, reporting, and audit processes across multiple jurisdictions with key decisions made under managerial oversight. This role ensures accurate reporting of business assets, timely filing of returns, and proper application of valuation and depreciation methods while minimizing tax exposure and maintaining compliance with applicable laws. The analyst works closely with the Indirect Tax Manager to create and refine processes through cross-departmental collaboration, while providing guidance and support to the Tax Administrator on Sales & Use Tax matters.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and file personal property tax returns for multiple states and local jurisdictions
Analyze fixed asset records to identify taxable personal property and applicable exemptions
Apply appropriate depreciation schedules, valuation methods, and situs rules
Reconcile personal property tax filings to fixed asset and general ledger records
Review assessment notices for accuracy and identify opportunities for appeal or correction
Assist with preparation and support of personal property tax audits and assessments
Coordinate with third-party tax advisors, consultants, and local taxing authorities
Track filing calendars, payment deadlines, and jurisdictional requirements
Maintain accurate documentation, workpapers, and asset support schedules
Monitor changes in personal property tax laws and reporting requirements
Assist with sales & use tax questions
Assist Indirect Tax Manager on SUT refund claims and adhoc projects
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field required. Additional years of experience would be considered om
4+ years of experience in personal property tax compliance or related tax functions
Working knowledge of personal property tax laws, asset valuation, and depreciation methods
Experience working with tax compliance processes
Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multi-jurisdictional personal property tax filings
Familiarity with Personal Property Tax (PPT) & ERP software (e.g.,S4/Hana, SAP, Oracle, PTMS, or similar systems)
Experience supporting personal property tax appeals
Exposure to sales & use tax or property tax compliance
