We value collaboration, technical excellence, and creating opportunities for our team to grow across a diverse range of project types.About the RoleWe are seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) with project management and land development experience to join our growing team in our Chesapeake, VA location. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both technical design and project management, with responsibility for leading projects from concept through permitting and construction.You’ll work closely with clients, internal teams, and leadership while mentoring junior staff and helping drive successful project delivery.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage land development projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developmentsServe as the primary point of contact for clients, agencies, and project stakeholdersOversee the preparation of site design plans, including grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion controlReview and QA/QC project deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and complianceManage project schedules, budgets, and resources to meet deadlines and client expectationsCoordinate permitting efforts and navigate local and state regulationsProvide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior engineers and designersCollaborate across disciplines (survey, transportation, landscape architecture, etc.) to deliver integrated solutionsSupport business development efforts, including proposal development and client relationship managementQualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related fieldActive Professional Engineer (PE) license6+ years of experience in land development, including project management responsibilitiesProven experience leading projects and managing client relationshipsProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and site designPreferred:Experience with local permitting processes in NC or VAStrong understanding of stormwater management and regulatory complianceExperience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environmentBackground supporting proposals or contributing to business development effortsSkillsStrong leadership and project management capabilitiesExcellent communication and client-facing skillsHigh attention to detail and commitment to qualityAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectivelyCollaborative mindset with a team-first approachWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation and comprehensive benefitsOpportunities for leadership growth and career advancementA collaborative, professional work environmentExposure to a variety of land development projectsA culture that encourages flexibility, growth, and cross-disciplinary experienceWhy American EngineeringWe believe experienced engineers should have both technical depth and leadership opportunities.
