Business & Finance Specialist (Part-Time)About the OpportunityCatskill Animal Sanctuary is seeking a Business & Finance Specialist to support the organizations financial operations, budgeting processes, and internal systems. This role plays an important part in ensuring strong fiscal stewardship, sound business practices, and operational efficiency. The position works closely with the Executive Director and department leads while remaining actively involved in hands-on accounting and administrative functions.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both numbers and operations and wants their work to support a meaningful mission for animals and people alike.About Catskill Animal SanctuaryCAS is one of the worlds leading teaching sanctuaries, located on approximately 100 acres in New Yorks Hudson Valley. We are home to more than 140 rescued farmed animals across several different species. Our dedicated staff, together with many volunteers, welcome thousands of visitors each year through our tours, programs, and humane education initiatives.What Youll DoFinancial Management & AccountingManage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and month-end closeMaintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAPSupport proper expense allocation across programs and departmentsMonitor cash flow and prepare monthly financial reports Budgeting & Financial PlanningSupport the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Executive Director and department leadsMonitor budget performance and provide regular updatesTrack restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance with donor and grant requirementsBusiness Operations & SystemsServe as a key contact for external accountants and auditorsHelp to prepare documentation for the annual audit and Form 990Manage payroll processing and benefits administration in coordination with HRManage financial systems and reportingWhat You BringBachelors degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field35+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or business operations (nonprofit experience preferred)Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial practicesExperience with budgeting and financial reportingProficiency in accounting software and strong Excel skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailA collaborative, solutions-focused approachWhy This Role MattersStrong financial and operational management ensures we can focus on advancing our mission effectively and responsibly.
