This position assists the McLeod County Sheriff's Office in maintaining peace within McLeod County communities. Posse members work scheduled shifts at the McLeod County Fair and Winstock Country Music Festival, assist in guarding inmates, provide security at public and private dances, and work scheduled shifts in McLeod County Parks. Shifts are based on need and availability to support the county. Pre-determined hours are not assigned to this position, as Posse members sign up for shifts they are available to work. Training is provided for first aid, CPR, and all other job-related skills to ensure members are fully equipped to handle emergencies and perform their duties effectively.SupplementalWage: $22.57 per hour in 2026Work Hours: Evenings and weekends; majority of hours worked May–October, with occasional daytime shift opportunitiesShift Sign-Up: Employees select the shifts they want to workMeetings: Mandatory in-person meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.Training Provided: Includes CPR and First Aid certificationHiring Now: Applications are currently being accepted for employment beginning in 2026Communication: Updates will be sent to applicants via emailPosition SummaryPosse members support the McLeod County Sheriff's Office by maintaining public safety, providing security, and assisting with law enforcement functions. This role involves working at community events, patrolling designated areas, and ensuring a safe environment for residents and visitors. Posse members must be prepared to handle a variety of situations, including crowd control, inmate supervision, and security detail while upholding professionalism and promoting public trust.Essential Functions/ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Position DutiesAssist the McLeod County Sheriff's Office in maintaining peace within McLeod County communities.Work scheduled shifts at the McLeod County Fair and Winstock Country Music Festival.Assist in the guarding of inmates.Provide security at public and private dances.Work scheduled shifts in the McLeod County Parks.Essential FunctionsPhysical Required to expend a "high" intensity of effort for duties including the movement and handling of individuals who may be combative. Must have the ability to defend self or others during a physical encounter. Work requires abilities for full range of physical movement and the ability to lift 50 pounds.Repetitive, small mechanical motion requiring full use of arms, hands, and fingers.Work requires all types of shift work which could include prolonged time seated in a vehicle and movement in and around the law enforcement facilities, Fairgrounds, Winstock, etc. while sitting, standing, walking or running.May be at risk of exposure to airborne pathogens, i.e., tuberculosis, bloodborne pathogens, i.e., and hepatitis through verbal or physical contact.A "medium" ability to communicate with other staff through direct contact, telephones, and intercoms is required on a daily basis.
