City of Temple TerraceSALARY: $23.33 - $25.66 per hourPOSITION: Building Maintenance TradesworkerPOSITION NO: 7.179DEPT: Public WorksThis is heavy manual work in the Operations/Maintenance Division of Public Works. Duties involve a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to repairing, modifying, and maintaining City buildings and facilities; may include some construction work. Employees in this class apply various skills in multiple trades and perform work which includes carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering, roofing, flooring, etc. Employee must be able to work with considerable independence and initiative in carrying out duties.Work is performed under the direction of the Deputy Director of Public Works - Operations/Maintenance and is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports, and results.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Abilities and SkillsWorking knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of building maintenance and repair work.Working knowledge of a variety of building construction and trades (e.g. carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, etc.).Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with building maintenance, repair, and construction.Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used in carpentry and building maintenance trades.Ability to operate motor vehicles, including trucks; climb ladders and work in high places.Some knowledge of basic record keeping.Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and sketches; determine materials needs and estimate job time.Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lifting of objects up to 75 pounds and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds overhead.Ability to learn the City's geographical area.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.Training and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED.Experience performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks as a trades helper or handyman in one of the building trades.Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Special RequirementsValid Florida driver's license.Minimum 1 year in building maintenance or construction trade or trade school equivalent .In this role you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks across our properties from general upkeep to any and all types of troubleshooting.Copies of required certification(s) must be submitted with the application.The City of Temple Terrace is a drug-free workplace.A pre-employment drug screen, criminal history background investigation, and a driver's license verification may be conducted.EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYERVETERAN'S PREFERENCE EMPLOYERPOSTING DATE: March 12, 2026CLOSING DATE: Open until filled.To apply for this position, please complete the online job application or download, complete and mail a printed application to the Human Resources Department at 11250 North 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
