Staff Accountant
Perform routine accounting activities across accounts payable, fixed assets, prepaids, investments, and other general ledger areas, including daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly accounting processes and reconciliations. Responsibilities include reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, performing accounting analysis, researching and resolving reconciling items, processing accounts payable, preparing accounting reports, as well as other routine entry-level accounting duties. Requires proficiency in computer-based spreadsheets and related software.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPreparation and processing of Accounts Payable to ensure that invoices are setup properly, sent for approval, processed timely, and all transactions are coded correctly with proper general ledger account numbers and cost centers in alignment with budget.Timely preparation of general ledger and subledger account analyses and reconciliations, including daily correspondent bank reconciliations, review of subledger-to-general ledger ties, and researching reconciling items for clearance.Perform daily non-post clearing, suspense account monitoring, offline deposit suspense and auto-debit reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution and escalation of outstanding items.Assist with corporate credit card processing and administration, through receipt verification, accurate expense processing and timely accruals.Review general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries as appropriateMaintain the Fixed Assets module within Prologue to ensure that fixed assets are setup properly, monthly depreciation is processed, and all transactions are coded correctly with proper general ledger account numbers and cost centersMaintain the Prepaid and Accruals module within Prologue to ensure that assets and accruals are setup properly, processed monthly, and all transactions are coded correctly with proper general ledger account numbers and cost centersMonitor and respond to inquiries received to the group accounting email, providing timely acknowledgement (including interim responses when needed) and escalating items appropriately when additional guidance or expertise is required.Act as a liaison between Accounting and the Financial Analysis teams to ensure all accounting related processes are booked properly and rectified timely for accurate financial reportingInitiate/Verify Wire Transfers as necessary in accordance with established controls.Assist in gathering information for external and internal audit firms, regulatory examiners, and any other 3 rd party requesting financial information as neededAssist in the preparation of regulatory reporting as neededPerform additional duties as requested, needed or assignedJob RequirementsStrong computer and technical skillsBe a high-level collaboratorHighly motivated and ability to multitaskDemonstrate and promote high ethical standards and behaviorsStrong problem-solving skillsMaintain a professional manner at all timesBe an active team playerBe adaptable to changeIdentify and resolve problems in a timely mannerWork well in a fast-paced environmentStrive to continuously build knowledge and skillsWork to enhance efficiencyContinuously look to improve processes and proceduresAbility to adhere to Needham Bank’s Core Values ( Focus on Customer Relationship, Embrace Change, Work as a Team, Be an Asset to Your Community, Always Learn, and Do the Right Thing )Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business1-3 years’ experience in banking or related field, a plusKnowledge of basic accounting principles and techniquesMust have computer skills and working proficiency with Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of Prologue and COCC systems, a plusWORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDSNormal business office environmentThis role can be based in Wellesley, MA or Portsmouth, NHNeedham Bank offers a competitive salary and an amazing benefit package for a full-time employee which includes fully paid medical and dental insurance, HRA, 401(k) plan with an 8% bank match, paid time off (PTO), paid holidays, a bonus program, flexible spending accounts, vision service plan, group term life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and an Employee Assistance Program.
