Mechanical Designer
Summary
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate mechanical designs, drawings, and documentation based on approved engineering concepts and specifications. This role translates engineering intent into manufacturable designs, supports prototype development, and maintains drawing and BOM accuracy throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Drafting
· Create, revise, and maintain 2D and 3D mechanical drawings and models using CAD software in accordance with engineering standards.
· Develop detailed parts, assembly, and subassembly drawings including dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes, and notes.
· Apply company drafting standards, geometric dimension and tolerance (GD&T) principles, and design guidelines consistently.
· Interpret engineering sketches, redlines, calculations, and specifications to create accurate design documentation.
BOM & ERP Ownership
· Create and maintain accurate and complete Bills of Materials (BOMs) for mechanical components and assemblies within SolidWorks as requested by mechanical engineers.
· Support engineering documentation integrity by coordinating drawing and BOM updates.
Engineering Change & Documentation Control
· Incorporate approved design changes through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
· Maintain revision history, version control, and documentation accuracy across all assigned projects.
· Coordinate documentation updates with Engineering Assistant and Engineers in Epicor ERP to ensure timely release.
Prototype & Manufacturing Support
· Support prototype builds by preparing drawings, updating documentation, and assisting with design iterations.
· Provide drawing clarification and design support to Production, Quality, and Purchasing.
· Participate in design reviews and cross-functional meetings as requested.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
· Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, standardization, and documentation processes.
· Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Designers, and R&D staff to support integrated product development.
· Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
· Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
· Ability to apply drafting standards and interpret GD&T.
· Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Education and/or Experience
· Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field required.
· Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
· Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial equipment design environment preferred.

The employee works in an office facility environment and may be exposed to hot temperatures in the summer months and cold temperatures during the winter months.
