Union Industrial Co. is hiring a Controller to join its team and support a private equity-backed roll-up platform within its portfolio, focused on the distribution and third-party logistics (3PL) sector.Location: Dallas, Texas (Office-based)Company Overview: Union is building a portfolio of rapidly growing, private equity-backed distribution businesses. Its first platform company operates in the 3PL and distribution sector and serves as the foundation for broader expansion. Union’s strategy combines industrial real estate development with private equity, with a primary focus on scaling portfolio companies within the 3PL and distribution space. The firm’s vision is to build a nationally significant 3PL platform through multiple acquisitions per year. Union’s leadership team has deep experience scaling businesses, including a Chairman who previously led a company from $20M to $3.8B in revenue, and a similar trajectory is targeted across its portfolio. Role Overview: Union is seeking a Controller to join its team and support its growing portfolio of businesses at an exciting early stage of rapid growth. This newly created role is perfect for a highly motivated, hands-on accounting professional who wants to build and scale accounting functions across fast-growing, private equity-backed companies. As the Controller, you will take ownership of the accounting operations across select portfolio companies, oversee a team of two bookkeepers, and work directly with senior leadership to establish robust financial reporting and ensure operations are optimized for scale. The ideal candidate will be excited about growing with the platform, with the opportunity to step into a CFO role within one of Union’s portfolio companies over time.Key Responsibilities:Accounting Function Leadership: Manage and develop the accounting department, which currently consists of two bookkeepers, to ensure efficient financial operations and timely reporting.Financial Reporting & Systems: Overhaul and implement first-class financial reporting systems to provide clear visibility into the business’s financial performance.Financial Strategy & Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and the company's financial goals.Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes to help drive business strategy and provide insights to senior leadership.Acquisition Integration: Play a key role in integrating new acquisitions into the financial structure of the company as part of the ongoing roll-up strategy.Operational Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to scale financial operations as the company grows.Support Senior Leadership: Work closely with the President/COO and CEO, providing financial insights and supporting decision-making at the executive level.Team Management: Supervise and mentor the two bookkeepers, fostering an environment of growth, accountability, and operational excellence.Requirements:Available for an immediate start onsite in Dallas, TXBachelor's DegreeCertified Public Accountant5+ years of work experience with QuickBooks5+ years of work experience with Microsoft ExcelWilling to accept a background checkDesired Qualifications:Experience: 5-7 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, ideally in a distribution or private equity-backed environment.Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting, with experience in setting up accounting systems and controls.
