We provide an opportunity for personal and professional growth and a great employee discount, as well!OBJECTIVEThe Greenhouse & Perennial Department Manager is responsible for the quality, vitality and appearance of all aspects of the greenhouse and perennial areas including products, merchandise, and display appearance in accordance with company standards. The continual assessment, evaluation and placement of inventory is required to make informed product order recommendations in support of the product line buyer and support the General Manager with product replenishment. The Greenhouse & Perennial Manager will also be responsible in coordinating staffing and scheduling needs with the Operations Manager in order to effectively and efficiently conduct the movement of inventory.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.Coordinate staffing and inventory needs with Operations Manager to efficiently and effectively receive product, execute displays and conduct floor moves related to the departmentBuild employee and customer relationships through routine interactions, product trainings and the transfer of department specific knowledge and usage to answer questions and inquiresMaintain the health, vitality and appearance of all department inventory in accordance with company standardsMaintain and communicate all administrative tasks and documentation related to department needs including seasonal staffing needs, signed product orders, invoices and all other documents needed by the Inventory Control AssociateRoutinely communicate department trends and recommendations to the General Manager to help make informed purchase and product replenishment ordersUtilize the point of sale (POS) system to accurately review inventory levels and complete purchase orders in support of the General Manager as neededEffectively utilize the space of the department to produce improved displays and make recommended floor moves and product placement ideas to the General Manager, Merchandising team and Company BuyersDevelop and communicate department specific directives to associates to ensure the movement and display of department specific inventory in an effective and timely mannerSupport associates in the movement of department specific inventory through the unloading of trucksAssist other Department Managers with special tasks and functions as directed by store management COMPETENCIESLeadership and CoachingWritten and Verbal CommunicationMaintenance of Productive Team RelationshipsStrong Work EthicWell OrganizedProblem Solving SkillsPREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMinimum of 3 years of progressive responsibility in Garden Center or related retail store operations required. Associate's degree or higher in horticulture, agriculture or other related field and 2+ years' experience working experience in the horticultural or garden center required. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely and effective results. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook.WORK ENVIRONMENTThis job operates in an active retail store environment.
