Sterile Processing Supervisor

Sterile Processing Supervisor *Location:* San Francisco *Job Type:* Contract Shift will be a weekend and 4 ten hour shifts. Schedule will vary as to days worked Position Overview We are seeking an experienced *Sterile Processing Supervisor* to oversee daily operations and provide leadership to Sterile Processing Technicians and support staff. This position will ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant processing of surgical instruments and equipment while supporting staff development, inventory management, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong Sterile Processing experience, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with Operating Room, Perioperative Services, and other hospital departments. Key Responsibilities * Supervise and monitor the daily collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and disinfection of surgical instruments and equipment. * Coordinate staff assignments and ensure surgical trays and case carts are accurately prepared and available when needed. * Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to Sterile Processing staff. * Identify training needs and provide education on Sterile Processing techniques, procedures, policies, and best practices. * Serve as a resource to technicians and staff regarding Sterile Processing processes, instrumentation, and operational issues. * Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate records for instruments, equipment, and supplies. * Support purchasing activities and identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and control costs. * Implement and maintain Sterile Processing policies, procedures, and operational standards. * Conduct and support regular quality and compliance audits, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective action plans. * Monitor compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, healthcare, and organizational requirements. * Track identified compliance issues and escalate concerns appropriately. * Develop daily work plans, coordinate resources, and ensure departmental priorities and deadlines are met. * Identify workflow and operational improvement opportunities and assist with implementing solutions. * Collaborate with OR, Perioperative Services, Infection Prevention, Quality, and other departments to ensure safe and timely availability of instruments and equipment. * Maintain required regulatory documentation, records, and reports. * Support leadership with departmental initiatives, process improvements, and special projects as needed. Qualifications * Previous experience in *Sterile Processing/Central Sterile* required. * Prior supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience strongly preferred. * Strong knowledge of decontamination, sterilization, instrument assembly, surgical trays, and case cart preparation. * Knowledge of applicable Sterile Processing standards, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance practices. * Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills. * Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. * Ability to train, coach, motivate, and hold team members accountable to established standards. * *Sterile Processing certification such as CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent preferred/required based on facility requirements.* Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a *hands-on Sterile Processing leader* who can effectively supervise daily operations, support and develop staff, maintain high quality standards, and ensure compliance in a fast-paced hospital environment. This individual should be comfortable working with multiple departments and proactively identifying opportunities to improve patient safety, workflow, and operational efficiency.
