Sterile Processing Technician

Job Title: Sterile Processing TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Sterile Processing Technician plays a vital role in supporting surgical services by ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely processing of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role is situated in the Central Sterile Processing Department of a high-acuity, teaching hospital and Level I trauma center. The technician is essential for infection prevention and the continuity of surgical operations, and operates in a fast-paced environment with a high surgical volume and complex case mix.Responsibilities+ Perform daily sterile processing functions with assignments in decontamination or instrument staging and preparation.+ Clean, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and trays in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory standards.+ Apply knowledge of instrumentation handling, tray assembly, and special procedural items to ensure accuracy and quality.+ Assemble all surgical trays processed by the department.+ Utilize sterilization and infection control principles to properly decontaminate instruments and equipment.+ Dispense equipment and instrumentation to surgical areas as needed.+ Restock carts, complete case cart picking, and assist with operating room turnover.+ Perform put-aways of instruments, supplies, and equipment.+ Operate department equipment, including cart washers, decontaminators, ultrasonic equipment, computers, scanners, and related tools.+ Conduct routine instrument and equipment quality checks.+ Document required activities using Epic.+ Maintain a strong patient- and customer-focused approach while adhering to strict quality, safety, and compliance standards.+ Float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities based on operational needs.Essential Skills+ High School Diploma or GED.+ National certification required: CBSPD, CRCST, or CBSPD, IAHCSMM/HSPA.+ Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association.+ Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience in a healthcare facility, with acute care facility preferred.+ Must pass extensive lifetime background check.+ Must meet compliance requirements, including Relias exams with 85%+.+ References required.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Experience with sterile processing, instrumentation processing, and sterilization.+ Knowledge of acute care, sterilization, decontamination, and aseptic technique.Work EnvironmentThis position is located in the Central Sterile Processing Department. The schedule involves night shifts with hours from Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Orientation will be 8 hours. The role is initially for a 13-week assignment with a potential for extension.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $29.00 - $32.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
