Spanish Teacher (One-Year Sabbatical Coverage)

Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous preparation for students of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and beyond to reach their intellectual, creative, and physical potential.Lyndon Institute is seeking to hire a full-time Spanish Teacher to fill a one-year vacancy. This position will report directly to the Dean of Academics and assume all job responsibilities of a full-time academics teacher. The start date for the position is August 17, 2026 and the end date is June 7, 2027.Job Summary:The High School Spanish Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in the Spanish language and culture to students in grades 9-12. This role involves planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons that cater to various learning styles while promoting proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The teacher will create a supportive and interactive classroom environment that encourages students to develop a deep understanding of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and cultural context. The position also involves assessing student progress, providing constructive feedback, and collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student success. Additional duties may include participating in school events, meetings, and professional development activities.Key Responsibilities:Develop and deliver Spanish language lessons for high school students.Assess and track student progress through tests, quizzes, assignments, and class participation.Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.Incorporate various teaching methods and materials, including technology, to engage students.Prepare students for exams and language proficiency assessments.Promote cultural awareness by integrating Spanish-speaking countries' customs, traditions, and history into lessons.Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.Participate in extracurricular activities, such as language clubs or cultural events, as needed.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.Certification to teach Spanish at the high school level is preferred but not required.Demonstrated expertise in Spanish language and culture, with teaching experience across a variety of high school and/or post-secondary level courses.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Passion for teaching and fostering a love of the Spanish language and culture.
