Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Job Description Personal Care services are designed to help clients with normal daily activities and monitor the medical conditions of functionally impaired/disabled clients. The kinds of activities that the Personal Care Aide (PCA) performs are comparable to those that family members would perform for the person in need. Personal Care Aides provide assistance with walking, bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, preparing meals, and feeding. The aide also helps to maintain the home environment, including light cleaning, laundry, shopping, and keeping the home safe. The client's vital signs, such as respiratory rate, pulse rate, and temperature, are observed. The aide may also remind the client to take prescribed medication(s) and, when necessary, transport and/or escort the client.RequirementsHigh School Diploma or Equivalent At least 18 years of ageCapable of performing assigned dutiesAble to assume responsibility for in-service trainingMust be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with participant and supervisorAble to use mobile apps for check in and outCapable of following a care plan with minimal supervisionBe able to document services providedFollow written instructionsMaintain a safe, clean environment and utilize proper infection control techniques.Pass competency testing or successfully complete a competency training and evaluation program performed by an RN Under no circumstances may a PCA perform any type of skilled medical service. Support for activities of daily living:EatingBathing (Bed Bath, bench shower, sink bath)Personal GroomingPersonal HygieneSkin CareMeal planning and preparationAssist in and out of bedReposition participants as necessaryAssist with ambulationToileting and maintaining continenceCleaning, laundry, shopping, home safety, errandsMonitor temperature, check pulse rate, observe respiratory rate and blood pressureMonitor medication- give reminderErrand services as necessaryObserving and reporting the participant's conditionLimited assistance with financial matters, such as delivering payments to designated recipients on behalf of participants.
