Senior Fire Code InspectorThe Senior Fire Code Inspector in Fire Construction Services is an exciting position in a fast-paced work environment with a variety of challenges and rewards. This is a dual-role position with both plan review and inspections. In this position, you will be responsible for completing assigned plan reviews and inspections associated with construction, fire suppression, fire alarm and water supplies and acting as a subject matter expert. The ideal candidate should have initiative, a strong work ethic, and be able to work independently and in team environments.

As a Senior Fire Code Inspector, you will:
Conduct plan reviews a variety of buildings, facilities, structures, fire protection systems, and processes (main responsibility)
Advise the public concerning principles of Fire Prevention
Explain code requirements and compliance alternatives to business and design professionals
Inspect buildings, facilities, and structures to ensure compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes
Give informative and educational presentations to city staff and the public
Enforce local, state, and federal fire prevention standards, codes, laws, and ordinances
Advise the Deputy Fire Marshal and Fire Marshal on complex fire code related issues
Prepare clear and concise reports; maintain and update a variety of files
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Knowledge of:
Current fire protection/detection systems technology
Advanced building, construction materials, and techniques
Principles and practices of data collection and report preparation
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Principles, practices operational characteristics, services, and activities of a fire prevention program within a large municipal fire department
Plan review processes and procedures
Inspection principles and practices related to various building types, safe work practices and procedures.
Alternative Means Code Compliance
Modern office technology, including word processing/database software
Ability to:
Apply principles and practices of fire prevention technology
Apply, interpret, explain, and enforce the full range of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including the locally adopted Fire Code, and Building Code
Operate a variety of specialized inspection equipment, including hydrant and light testing equipment, decibel measuring equipment, hazardous materials analysis equipment, vapor analysis equipment, and air velocity meters
Read and comprehend construction and system plans, blueprints, and mechanical drawings
Identify fire hazards and fire code violations
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Establish and implement goals and initiatives
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in fire protection engineering, public administration, or a related field
Five (5) years of full-time professional experience as a fire code inspector I / II or equivalent
Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Possess, or obtain within twelve months of hire the following certifications.
International Code Council (ICC) Inspector II
ICC Fire Plans Examiner
Hazardous Materials Awareness
State of Colorado Inspector III/Plans Examiner
ICS 100
ICS 200
ICS 700

The background check for this position includes CSPD fingerprinting and background check.
Work is performed primarily in the office with some field work with travel from site-to-site and possible exposure to extreme weather conditions. Occasional emergency site work, overtime, on-call, standby, and modified work schedules may be required. This position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, climb ladders, and audiovisual acuity. The ability to wear respiratory protective equipment from respirators to self-contained breathing apparatus depending on the area of required operational responsibility and duties and lift and carry 40 pounds occasionally is also required.
