TOSD is preferred but not required at this time.Reports to: PrincipalSummaryThe Teacher of Mathematics position is responsible for creating a high school classroom environment that develops competencies in mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems.Job DutiesTeaches content and skills in mathematics curriculum.Adapts mathematics material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students.Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student.Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student's abilities.Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one.Implement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track their progress.Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students' progress and goals.Discuss student's progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administratorsEvaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.Evaluates each student's progress in meeting the course standards mathematical knowledge and skills.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.Perform administrative duties such as assisting in hall duty, cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.Other duties as requested. Special Education: Demonstrates competence in special education and the academic subject field(s) assigned.Implement IEPs, assess students' performance and growth, and track progress.Provides instruction to classified pupils in accordance with each pupil's individualized education program.Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated teaching objectives, and student individual education plan (IEP) objectives.Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports, PLAAFPs, and report card grades as required per scheduled dates and timetables established by the school and in student individual education plans.Attends IEP meetings.Assists in developing Individualized Education Program (IEPs) and updating IEPs for students.Create and adapts lesson plans to address students' learning needs and abilities as identified in IEPs and assessment measures of growth and proficiency.Discuss student's progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators.Physical RequirementsIntermittent standing and sitting 6-7 hours dailyEscorting students to and from various classroom settings, which requires climbing stairsAccompany students on playground and field trips, which may require elevated physical activity and/or riding a busEnvironment RequirementsTeachers work in climate-controlled, indoor environments, however, there are several circumstances in which a teacher might work outdoors or outside of the school grounds.
