Control Engineer - Allen Bradly / Rockwell PLCs
POSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for the design, programming, installation, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing systems. The Controls Engineer will support World Class Manufacturing initiatives by developing and maintaining PLC programs, robotics systems, industrial networks, and electrical controls to improve equipment reliability and manufacturing performance.The Controls Engineer will lead automation projects, support start-up activities, troubleshoot complex control systems, and assist with integrating robotics and vision systems into new and existing equipment. This position will also train and support controls technicians.The Controls Engineer is expected to follow safety and environmental compliances.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Design, program, and maintain Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLC systems.• Program and integrate Fanuc robots or similar robotic systems.• Maintain and modify HMI applications and operator interfaces.• Install and integrate new automation systems and equipment.• Test, troubleshoot, and oversee implementation of new processes and robotics.• Support start-up activities for new equipment and capital projects.• Maintain automation processes and system documentation.• Assist with integrating robots into new and existing machines.• Assist with integrating vision systems and automated inspection systems.• Install retrofits to existing systems and troubleshoot hardware and instrumentation problems.• Maintain and troubleshoot industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, ControlNet).• Apply knowledge of VFDs and servo drive systems.• Apply knowledge of power distribution as it applies to machine controls.• Apply working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum control systems.• Maintain and troubleshoot electro-mechanical control devices (sensors, relays, switches, motors, transformers, starters).• Ensure proper machine guarding and electrical safety compliance.• Coordinate improvements to manufacturing processes in a Lean / World Class Manufacturing environment.• Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities.• Train, coach, and mentor maintenance and technical personnel.• Maintain clear reports, documentation, and system backups.• Comply with OSHA, company safety standards, and ISO 14001 awareness training.• Perform other duties as assigned in support of production and continuous improvement initiatives.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.• 3+ years of experience in manufacturing automation or controls engineering.• Experience in plastics molding industry preferred.• Experience programming Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLCs.• Experience programming and integrating robotic systems (Fanuc preferred).• Knowledge of industrial networks and database operations.• Familiar with hydraulics, electricity, and pneumatics in a manufacturing environment.• Strong verbal and written communication skills.• Ability to interact professionally with all levels of management.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
