NCCER Rigger
The NCCER Certified Rigger is responsible for safely preparing, attaching, controlling, and guiding loads during lifting and moving operations using cranes, hoists, and other material handling equipment. This position supports heavy industrial construction projects including installation of structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping systems, and large process components. All work is performed in accordance with company safety policies, site-specific requirements, and applicable OSHA regulations. Key Responsibilities * Inspect and select appropriate rigging equipment including slings, shackles, chokers, chains, wire rope, spreader bars, and lifting devices.* Calculate load weights, determine center of gravity, and identify proper rigging configurations.* Attach loads to rigging equipment and secure to crane hooks or hoisting devices.* Signal crane operators using standard hand signals or radio communication.* Guide loads into position using tag lines while maintaining safe clearance.* Assemble and disassemble rigging hardware.* Inspect rigging gear before each use and remove defective equipment from service.* Assist with setting structural steel, pipe racks, vessels, pumps, skids, and heavy industrial equipment.* Follow lift plans and assist in critical lift planning when required.* Maintain clean and organized work areas.* Work in coordination with crane operators, ironworkers, pipefitters, millwrights, and supervisors.* Adhere to all company, client, and OSHA safety standards. Required Qualifications * Current NCCER Rigger Certification (Level I or Level II preferred).* 2+ years of industrial construction rigging experience (preferred).* Strong understanding of load charts and rigging principles.* Knowledge of OSHA standards related to rigging and crane operations.* Ability to interpret lift plans and basic construction drawings.* Ability to communicate clearly with crane operators and crew members.* Must be able to pass drug screening and background check. Physical Requirements * Ability to lift 40 pounds regularly.* Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing.* Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.* Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.* Must be able to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection, etc.). Work Environment * Heavy industrial construction sites (refineries, chemical plants, power plants, manufacturing facilities).* Exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, and moving machinery.* May require overtime, weekend work, and travel depending on project needs.
