Pipeline Transportation of Natural GasNatural Gas DistributionEngine, Turbine, and Power Transmission Equipment ManufacturingOil and Gas ExtractionContinuing Care Retirement Communities and Assisted Living Facilities for the ElderlyJob DescriptionPOSITION OVERVIEWThe pipeline Gas Controller/Senior Controller is responsible for safely operating and monitoring Cheniere gas transmission pipeline systems via the pipeline Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system while ensuring that nominated volumes are transported in accordance with transportation agreements on a 24/7 basis. The Gas Controller is the main contact for all interconnecting third party operational entities and is the liaison between the Creole Trail Pipeline (CTPL) and Cheniere LNG regasification/liquefaction terminal. The gas controller is responsible for recognizing and reacting to abnormal operations on the pipeline system and is responsible for initiating response to maintain safe operations.RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIESUnder the direction of the Gas Operations Supervisor, the Gas Controller/Senior Gas Controller is responsible for the following:Continuously monitoring and controlling the pipeline to maintain safe operationsReceiving confirmed customer nominations reports, reviewing these nominations and ensuring receipt/delivery of nominated volumesCommunicating with interconnecting control centers to ensure that deliveries and receipts are accomplished and to manage emergent issuesExecuting operations plans through collaboration with the customer coordinator and up/downstream gas controllersRecognizing and reacting to Abnormal Operating Conditions, and dispatching field operations personnel to respond when necessaryCommunicating deviations from plan and operational problems to customer coordinatorsReceiving calls on the pipeline emergency phone number and responding to pipeline emergenciesKeeping track of imbalances between the pipeline and interconnecting partiesReviewing proposed changes to the pipeline system and recommending adjustments to pipeline operationsSelf-monitoring for fatigue and taking countermeasuresMonitoring/recording hours worked and staying with in limitationsMaintaining pipeline physical security by monitoring surveillance systems and maintaining cyber security by monitoring the SCADA systemPerforming shift change meetingsMaintaining qualifications and trainingMaintaining the pipeline logbookMaintaining training on more than one systemDemonstrate competency in optimizing system performanceKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Knowledge:The Gas Controller/Senior Gas Controller requires knowledge of natural gas transportation including pipeline hydraulic behavior, nominations and scheduling processes, compressor operation and horsepower optimization, linepack management, SCADA systems, Personal Computer operation, and managing system receipts and deliveries to balance customer service and maintenance without compromising safety.Skills:Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers on matters of a complex nature.Clear communication skills will be required to communicate operating plans to operators/gas controllers and operational constraints to customer service personnel.The ability and willingness to work rotating (day/night) twelve-hour shifts.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEEducation, Training and Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required; formal education in related technical or engineering discipline desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Experience:Gas Controller: At least three (3+) years of experience which demonstrates the ability to monitor and safely control systems not in immediate proximity through a computerized control system.Senior Gas Controller: At least seven (7+) years of experience which demonstrates the ability to monitor and safely control systems not in immediate proximity through a computerized control system.DIRECT REPORTSNoneFREEDOM TO ACTThe on-duty Gas Controller has primary responsibility for operating the system safely and in compliance with all operating procedures and pipeline safety regulations. The on-duty Gas Controller is authorized to take actions necessary to ensure safe operation of the pipeline system and transportation of nominated gas volumes. The on-duty Gas Controller is fully authorized and requires no further approval to adjust flow rates at delivery and receipt meter stations as needed, communicate with third party Gas Control centers, communicate with and call out pipeline field technicians, activate the emergency response plan, and shut system valves as needed to respond to normal and abnormal operating conditions.WORK CONDITIONSGas Controller is required to be available for stand-by duty on weekends and after hours.The Gas Controller is expected to work 12 hour day/night shifts and self -monitor, report, and mitigate fatigue.While performing the duties of this job, the Gas Controller is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, talk or hear, taste, smell, type and write.While performing normal duties of this job, the Gas Controller will work indoors.Specific Vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.The Gas Controller is subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations.All responsibilities must be met in a rotating shift environment, including holidays, weekends and nights.ADA JOB REQUIREMENTSReasonable accommodations will be made to ensure that the essential functions of the job can be performed and not hinder the employee's performance due to physical or mental disability.EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYCheniere Energy is an equal opportunity workplace.
