Position Title: Science Teacher (Chemistry and Physical Science)The Jesuit science teacher is a collaborative member of the science department who brings out the best in students academically, strives to nurture and enhance student life, and witnesses authentically to the goals and ideals of Jesuit education.This salaried, exempt faculty position works as a 10-month employee reporting to the Principal. It is located in Mid-City New Orleans on Carrollton Avenue between Palmyra and Banks Streets. The mission of Jesuit High School as a Catholic, college preparatory school is to develop in its students the competence, conscience, and compassion that will enable them to be men of faith and men for others.Professional ResponsibilitiesModels Catholic values and actively contributes to the formation of these values within the studentsPrepares and presents class material at the college preparatory level that correlates to the science departmental curriculum for Chemistry and Physical SciencePrepares and administers assessments aligned to the established departmental standardsGrades and posts all assignment grades weeklyIs available before and/or after school should a student request extra academic assistanceMaintains Canvas learning management platform for course information, including class policies, learning materials, assignments, and gradesMaintains classroom discipline in a spirit of truth and fairness and applies policies equally to all studentsRegularly communicates to parents and counselors matters of concernCooperates with the administration in professional development initiatives, performance evaluations, faculty meetings, and written communicationsAttends all departmental meetings and actively serves in studying departmental and school initiativesContinues personal study and growth in individual professional areasContributes to student life by attending all assemblies, school Masses, and pep rallies, and participating in retreats, service opportunities, and student life events as availableModerates a homeroom and fulfills the duties of his/her daily proctoring assignmentProfessional RequirementsAppreciation and support for Catholic and Jesuit religious ethosHigh standards of personal integrity and character that is consistent with the discipline, norms, and teachings of the Catholic ChurchBachelor's degree in science or related field of studyUnderstanding of best practices related to teaching and learning with a commitment to excellenceStrong interpersonal skills and desire to engage students and other members of the school communityCollaborative and team-oriented spiritAvailability for night or weekend events such as parent-teacher conferences, Open House, Baccalaureate Mass, commencement exercises, and other functions as determined by the administrationHigh work ethic and commitment to timeliness in all school-related commitmentsSalary And BenefitsJesuit offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a benefits package including a 401k with employer contributions as well as employer-paid life and disability insurance.
