Assistant Principal
The Lorain County JVS is a public high school that provides career-technical training and academic courses for high school students grades 9-12. In addition the Adult Career Center offers training and educational opportunities for adults.REPORTS TO:High School PrincipalSTARTING DATE:August 2026SALARY:Appropriate step on Administrative Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and educationBENEFITS:Hospitalization, dental, vision, prescription, and term life insurance; up to three approved personal leave days per year; sick leave; tuition reimbursement, and professional development opportunities.WORK WEEK/YEAR:220 Day Work Year as per Board-adopted calendarMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Five or more years verified successful teaching experience preferably in a career and technical field or environmentEarned Master's Degree or higher7-12 Principal's Licensure and/or appropriate State of Ohio certification/licensure as required for this positionSuccessful secondary teaching and building administration experienceKnowledge of Ohio School LawProven ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingWillingness to work with local business & industry to develop contacts for training programsAble and willing to obtain van driving permit and ability to pass criminal background checkPrior experience supervising students both in and out of the classroomExcellent understanding of career and technical programmingExemplary organizational and problem solving skillsWillingness to actively participate in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO'S)Effective, active listening skillsProven understanding of current teaching methods and strategiesExcellent public relations skillsTeam player, willingness to work effectively in a team environmentExcellent understanding of technology and how it can be successfully used to enhance the teaching/learning processExperience working with teachers, parents/guardians and students in difficult situationsExperience with the budgetary process as it relates to school financeWorking knowledge of special education procedures as defined by the Ohio modelPast experience working with special needs studentsExperience working in an environment in which progressive student disciplinary strategies were usedWillingness to work varied shifts, evenings, weekendsAbility to work effectively with othersDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Verifiable experience with the supervision and evaluation of classroom teachers and instructional aidesPrior experience in a Career Tech leadership/management roleProven experience working directly with a wide variety of career tech programsDUTIES:Supervise, evaluate and work closely with the high school and adult education staffResponsible for student disciplineInteract in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsAssist in the selection, retention and promotion of certified and non-certified personnelPrepare all reports and maintain such records as required by school lawDirect and coordinate the classified staff assigned to the high school and adult career centerAssist with the development of the Student HandbookAssist with directing the activities of school staff membersImplement and monitor all Board policies and regulationsPREFFERED:* Building administration experience"The Lorain County Joint Vocational School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age in its programs and activities, and provides equal access to the Boys Scouts and other designated youth groups."
