Construction Estimator

Duties & Responsibilities include:Manage the estimating department in its function of developing hard bids, construction management estimates, design build proposals and any other type of project that requires an estimatePrepare weekly bid calendar and ensures timely completion of estimatesManage and coordinate the department workloadParticipate in the determination of which projects the company will pursueEvaluate the performance of the department personnel and develop a strategy that will advance the capabilities of the estimating staff through assignments and trainingIdentify and monitor career paths for estimating staffResponsible for hiring and evaluating the estimating staff and training them to ensure that their skill sets will support corporate goalsMonitor the success and accuracy of the department’s estimatesOversee the management of the estimating database and historic building costsReview the subcontractor and supplier databaseManages the project buyout following a successful bidEstimating SkillsExperience with hard bid, construction management and design build estimatingKeep abreast of construction inflationMaintain current cost records for labor, material and equipmentTeach fellow estimators to estimate all divisionsHigh level of skill with lump sum, unit price and negotiated estimatesGeneralDedicate the time necessary to prepare a winning bid and develop skill setsMust be self- motivated with a strong sense of urgency to get the job doneMust be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skillsMust act professionally when dealing with fellow employees and external contactsStrive to build winning relationships with other departments within the business Project management, preconstructions services, field personnel and accountingParticipate in hiring, evaluating and managing estimating staffParticipate in company business development efforts to identify and track potential projectsQualificationsB.S degree in engineering or construction management7-10 years of experience with a commercial general contractorDetail oriented with a demonstrated ability to organize and manage detailed analysisHave a high degree of competency with Suretrack, Excel, and Timberline on-screen take off/RevitPossess the ability to communicate clearly both in written and verbal formatsThe ability to work in a high pressure environment with tight deadlinesStrong organizational and problem solving skillsAbility to work in a team environment
