OTR Tire Technician

Thompson Tire & Retread is a local, family-owned, full-service tire business serving customers in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Davenport, Iowa. Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Off-The-Road (OTR) Tire Technician to join our team. The OTR Tire Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of large tires typically used on heavy equipment and vehicles in industries such as mining, construction, and agriculture. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of OTR tires, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Pay range varies based on experience and skill level. Responsibilities: Inspect, repair, and replace OTR tires on various types of heavy equipment, including but not limited to loaders, haul trucks, and graders. Perform tire mounting, dismounting, and inflation tasks following safety procedures and guidelines. Conduct tire assessments and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions. Repair punctures and cuts in tires using appropriate tools and techniques. Maintain accurate records of all tire-related activities, including inspections and repairs. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies at all times. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with clients on-site or at the shop. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in tire repair is preferred. Proven experience as an OTR Tire Technician or similar role, preferably in a heavy equipment or industrial setting. Strong knowledge of OTR tire brands, sizes, and specifications. Proficiency in using tire repair tools and equipment such as tire changers, inflators, and alignment machines. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 pounds) and work in various weather conditions.
