Tax Manager

Job Title: Tax ManagerJob Location: Mount Clemens, MIJob Type: Full TimeRelocation Assistance: YesResponsibilities:Client & Technical LeadershipReview and manage the preparation of complex tax returns, including multi-entity, consolidated, partnership, S-Corporation, and high-net-worth individual returns. Provide proactive tax planning, consulting, and advisory services to clients. Identify tax-saving opportunities, potential risks, and compliance issues. Serve as a primary point of contact and trusted advisor for client relationships. Ensure technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and consistency across all engagements. Team Leadership & DevelopmentSupervise, mentor, and develop staff and senior accountants. Provide technical guidance, coaching, and training on tax matters and workflow processes. Review tax returns and workpapers with a focus on quality and professional development. Support employee performance management, feedback, and career progression initiatives. Operations & Process ImprovementManage project timelines, workload distribution, and engagement deliverables. Drive process improvements, workflow standardization, and operational efficiency initiatives. Support implementation and optimization of tax and practice management technologies. Monitor engagement performance metrics including realization, utilization, and efficiency. Must-Have Skills:Strong technical expertise in business taxation, multi-state taxation, and complex tax return review. Proficiency with UltraTax (Thomson Reuters) and Accounting CS software. Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams. Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent client relationship management and advisory skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA license required or actively pursuing certification with significant progress. Minimum of 10 years of public accounting experience with a strong emphasis on business taxation. Experience reviewing multi-state, multi-entity tax returns. Demonstrated experience managing client engagements and supervising teams. Good to Have:Experience working in a small to mid-sized or growth-oriented accounting firm. Strong project management and delegation capabilities. Experience with workflow and practice management platforms such as Canopy or similar tools. Exposure to process improvement, operational scaling, or technology modernization initiatives. Experience supporting business development or client growth strategies.
