This role oversees compliance systems, state indicators, and dispute resolution processes, supervises specialized personnel, and supports building leaders. The Assistant Director collaborates across departments to align services with district improvement goals, and promotes meaningful integration of students with disabilities into general education environments.Job Duties / ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with federal and state mandates to provide a full continuum of services.Monitor and interpret state and federal rules and regulations to provide training to keep district staff aware of current regulations and guidance.Assist with the procurement of funding for Special Education programs by complying with state and federal rules and regulations.Assist with the supervision and evaluation of Special Education programs and administrators.Coordinator and develop department newsletter to distribute no less than quarterly district-wide.Ensure proper implementation of Special Education programs by screening, training, and motivating an effective staff.Plan and implement a program of formal and informal staff appraisals to assist staff in reaching their professional goals and to increase the quality of their work.Participate in IEP/Special Education meetings as needed to ensure that each student is provided and receives an appropriate Individualized Education Plan which best meets the identified student needs.Support the appropriate special education services to students by assuring the evaluative and diagnostic services and placements meet the identified student needs.Support maximum integration of special education students into general education by working in tandem with general education programs.Create coherence of Specialized Student Services programs to the District's Strategic Plan and Department goals.Lead and participate in various committees support district-wide and program initiatives to engage all stakeholders in the program (i.e. Safety Committee, Special Education Committee).Assist with the management and monitoring of state indicators.Lead complaint resolution procedures involving: ISBE state complaints, OCR complaints, mediation procedurals, and due process proceedings.Serve as the department liaison for major discipline incidents involving students with disabilities.Support professional learning and implementation of IEP development and our online IEP/504 platform.Collaborate with building administrators and school counselors on the development of 504 Plans.Conduct annual professional development to various groups regarding 504 Plans.Lead the Para Interventionists Team (PIT) and monitor building referrals for PIT assistance.Other duties as assigned.EducationPERA module designations required (Teacher & Principal)Professional Educator License with General Administrator or Principal endorsementLBS1 CertificationAt least five (5) years of special education teaching experience and supervisory experienceBilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.Experience / KnowledgeKnowledge about theories of learning, literacy, curriculum, and assessment and identification procedures (psychological and educational).Deep knowledge of IDEA and Section 504.Effective communication skills, well-organized, strong time-management skills, problem solver, and reflective.Familiar with student information systems and electronic IEP systems.Physical DemandsAbility to work in a very fast paced and stressful environment.Ability to work on a computer over a major portion of the work day.Ability to travel between school sites.Terms of EmploymentThis is a 12-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.The salary range for this position is $100,716.00 - $151,055.00.
