Staff Elixir Engineer (US Only)

About the Role This is a permanent/full-time position directly with our client. As a Staff Software Engineer, AI, you will build and scale AI-powered backend services that integrate modern LLMs and AI platforms into production applications. Working primarily with Elixir/Phoenix and TypeScript, you'll design resilient distributed systems, develop intelligent product features, and help shape the architecture of AI-enabled solutions. You'll partner closely with engineering, AI, and product teams while leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT as part of your daily development workflow. No visa sponsorship provided. Most Important Strong production experience with Elixir/Phoenix, including OTP, concurrency, supervision trees, and fault-tolerant systems. Solid TypeScript experience and the ability to work effectively in a polyglot environment (approximately 70% Elixir / 30% TypeScript). Hands-on experience integrating OpenAI/ChatGPT APIs or similar AI services into production applications. Practical experience with prompt engineering and building AI-powered features using existing LLM platforms (not training AI models). Strong understanding of distributed systems, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS/Azure acceptable), and scalable backend architecture. Nice to Have Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Broadway, GenStage, or other event-driven messaging technologies. Experience working with Vertex AI, Modal, Cloudflare Workers AI, Claude, or similar AI platforms. Knowledge of vector databases, semantic search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or GenAI applications. Experience optimizing AI API performance, latency, caching, and cost efficiency. Open-source contributions or active GitHub projects related to Elixir, TypeScript, AI, or distributed systems.
