Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.Summary:The Clinical Dietitian 3 (Advanced Practice Dietitian) is responsible for implementing advanced level medical nutrition therapy for patients at Rush. Active participation in the treatment process is essential as the Clinical Dietitian 3 frequently interacts with patients and members of the health care team. This role will care for complex, critically ill patient populations that are frequently unable to meet nutrition requirements orally, requiring enteral nutrition (EN) or parenteral nutrition (PN). This may include, but is not limited to, post-surgical, critically ill, neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric patients. The Clinical Dietitian 3 has a specialty certification in their practice area, utilizes nutrition expertise to train nutrition students and clinical team. The Clinical Dietitian 3 participates in new program development and evaluation, development of quality improvement projects and/or research studies and demonstrates leadership skills by serving on hospital committees and has leadership roles in the dietetics professional community. The Clinical Dietitian 3 exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Other information:Required Job Qualifications:• Master of Science Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or health care related field• Six (6) years clinical work experience post-credentialing• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist• Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, State of Illinois• Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) if providing PN• Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) approved specialty certification (CNSC, CSG, CSP, CSO, CDR, CDCES, or others)• Must have academic preparation and/or experience in program management and in the care of persons with chronic diseasePreferred Job Qualifications:• Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics• Two to three years of clinical work experience at Rush• Active involvement in research, teaching classes, or leadership positions in professional organizations• Travel to ambulatory satellite clinic sites as neededAbilities:50% of time sitting, 50% of time walking or standing. It shall not be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements.Responsibilities:• Provides age-appropriate medical nutrition therapy for complex, critically ill, malnourished patients in specialty area on a timely basis.• Provides complex, evidence-based nutrition counseling/education for complex, critically ill patients. Evaluates scientific literature and applies this information to clinical practice.• Develops, implements, and evaluates nutrition care protocols and educational materials using current research.• Oversees enteral feedings and/or parenteral nutrition per protocol. Closely monitors patients for feeding and/or parenteral nutrition complications. Adjusts feedings and/or parenteral nutrition orders to ensure optimal intake.• Serves on departmental and organizational committee(s).• Helps on-board new clinical staff.• Coordinates transition of care to external health care facilities or to other clinicians.• Serves as a subject matter expert for educating dietetics students and other healthcare professionals on evidence-based medical nutrition therapy.• Reviews and updates clinical nutrition protocols and procedures to standardize care.• Designs and leads nutrition related research and quality improvement projects to ensure practicing at height of scope for credential.
