Indirect Tax Analyst

Mavis Tire - Tax Analyst, Tax + TreasuryPosition Summary and Responsibilities Your primary responsibilities include working with internal and external partners to ensure all sales and use tax compliance, audit, and accounting obligations are completed. Success in this role will require a passion for identifying and driving process improvements, enthusiasm for leading change, and a low tolerance for the status quo.Apply sales and use taxation knowledge to analyze and determine the applicability of sales & use tax on business purchases and ensure correct general ledger classification for enterprise-wide purchasing activity. Manage vendor questions for resale certificates and related processes.QualificationsBachelor’s degree required, in Accounting or Finance2+ years of Sales and Use Tax experience (public or private)Strong organization and time management attributes with ability to handle multiple prioritiesExperience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing prioritiesKnowledge and ability to learn of current state and local (multi-jurisdictional) sales/use tax laws, concepts, policies, and regulations and the specific application of these to retail companiesProficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications; strong expertise in Excel requiredMicrosoft Dynamics 365 experience a plusExperience and ability to respond to customers’ sales tax questions (includes ability to perform tax research and provide taxability guidance)Ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and tactfully, both verbally and in writing, successfully translating always-complex tax rules for business partners and customers.Essential Functions of the PositionResponsible for the exemption/resale certificate processCollaborate with team members on providing appropriate exemptions and resale certificates to vendors and suppliers and respond to related inquiriesManage issuance of tax exemption certificatesRegister in new jurisdictions for sales/use tax purposes as neededResearch and respond to sales/use tax questions submitted by internal and external customers, including responding in a timely, accurate, and complete fashionProvide guidance regarding taxability of products and servicesProvide support for D365 to ensure proper taxationAssist in audit defense efforts as neededAssist in reconciliation of sales/use tax workpapers including sales/use tax accountsAssist in the management of the monthly sales tax compliance process with outside service provider, ensuring accuracy and completenessAssist in the management of the indirect tax general ledger accounts and monthly tax reconciliationsRespond to indirect tax notices and support indirect tax audits inquiriesAssist with additional projects and assignments, including business registrations, trade name/DBA filings and annual reports, as requiredPrepare, file, and submit payment for various miscellaneous tax returns as neededMaintain the tax department’s indirect tax filing calendarMaintain and update monthly process documentation as neededRecommend process improvement to elevate accuracy, timeliness, and efficiencyPerform tax research using available research toolsContribute insights to the development of automated solutions to support our compliance process and tax-related systemsCommunicate effectively with team members and customers to provide exceptional service and supportEmployee BenefitsAt Mavis, we understand that our people drive our success.
