Job Description ResponsibilitiesDesign collection from concept to completion, driving seasonal concept and design development for the Toddler Boys category from ideation through executionResponsible for product design process to include market research, conceptual presentations, and guidance through fabric, print, graphic, spec, and fit processesCreate and present cohesive seasonal collections and capsules, including prints, graphics, color palettes, and trim details with knowledge of specialty graphic and embroidery techniques specific to the boys' categoryShop domestic and international markets, bringing in new ideas through competitive shopping and vintage research; translate trend forecasts into commercially viable product for the Toddler customerWork closely with Design Director for sketch review; discuss production, fabric, and other daily issues; partner with senior leadership on brand strategy and special initiativesResearch fabrics and trims; partner with Fabric R&D, Production, and mills to ensure accurate execution of design details, prints, and color standards across developmentResearch key silhouettes and trends with strong color theory knowledge and trend awareness specific to the toddler/kids' marketWork with both an in-house sample room and overseas design development; communicate with overseas vendors to ensure accurate execution of design intentDesign collection pieces that reflect the trends and aesthetic of the collection based on the Director's vision, maintaining a cohesive, on-brand point of view across the linePrepare spec packages for Product Development and Technical teams including construction details, front and back view sketches, fabrications, trim sheets, and critical measurementsIllustrate collection using CAD and flat sketching in IllustratorPrepare and maintain presentation boards throughout the seasonAssist in coloring and pass color to Product Development team upon Design Director approvalPass specs to Product Development and Technical teams in line with the calendarReview samples and provide fit comments to Product Development and Technical teamsReview qualities, construction, and/or trims to fit necessary price pointsWork with R&D, Product Development, and Production to improve qualityReview merchandise plans and maintain calendar timingLiaise directly with the sales team and /or retail partners to ensure product is consistent with market trends and business strategyCollaborate with Art Room, Merchandising, and Product Development teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout the development processPresent collection to sales, merchandising, production, retail partners, and other team members for seasonal approvalFollow up on color lab dips for final approvalCommunicate open issues with directors and work closely to resolve themCommunicate updates and changes to all business partners (Merchants, Production, Tech)Qualifications8+ years of experience in apparel design, with a focus on children's or toddler categoriesStrong sketching and technical flat skills; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite — all designs done in IllustratorProficient in Excel and PhotoshopSolid understanding of garment construction, fabrication, knit fabrications, and fit model standardsStrong color theory knowledge and trend awareness specific to the toddler/kids' marketExceptional art direction skills with an elevated aesthetic eye for graphics, print, and color; knowledge of specialty graphic and embroidery techniques specific to the boys' categoryUnderstanding of price points as applied to fabrics and constructionAbility to source and develop with China suppliersAbility to adapt to pricing structure to service private labelsCollaborative mindset with the ability to give and receive creative feedbackAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentLeadership experienceKnowledge of toddler-specific safety and compliance is a plusGenerative AI skills also a plusWhat Sets You ApartDeep knowledge of the Toddler Boys market and customerPassion for innovation in kids' apparel designAdaptability and a positive, solutions-oriented attitudeCompensation: $110,000 - $120,000Kellwood is an equal opportunity employer.
