Tolman High SchoolThe Pawtucket School Department is seeking a Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC) Instructor at William E. Tolman High School. The position is responsible for instructing secondary school students in the MCJROTC curriculum anddeveloping leadership, citizenship, and personal responsibility among cadets.MCJROTC instructors serve as mentors and role models who help students develop discipline, leadership skills, and an understanding of civic responsibility while maintaining compliance with Marine Corps and school district policies.Exemplary Duties and Responsibilities• Instruct cadets in the Marine Corps JROTC curriculum during the school year.• Conduct leadership, citizenship, and physical training activities consistent with MCJROTC program requirements.• Develop short- and long-range instructional plans aligned with MCJROTC curriculum goals.• Establish clear learning objectives and prepare appropriate lesson plans.• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students.• Evaluate student progress and counsel cadets regarding performance and development.• Motivate and encourage students to develop leadership skills, discipline, and responsible citizenship.• Maintain a safe and orderly classroom and training environment.• Organize, supervise, and participate in extracurricular activities including color guard, drill team, physical training, and community service activities.• Maintain MCJROTC student records and administrative reports in accordance with Marine Corps regulations and district policies.• Maintain accountability of government property and supplies in compliance with Marine Corps regulations.• Utilize a variety of instructional techniques, leadership activities, and instructional technology.Other Duties• Attend staff development programs, department meetings, and professional activities.• Serve as a role model demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and integrity.• Maintain working knowledge of current instructional practices and MCJROTC program requirements.• Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or district administration.Minimum Qualifications• Applicants must meet eligibility requirements established by Headquarters Marine Corps Marine Corps JROTC (MCJRO??).• Eligible applicants may include the following categories:Category I• Active-duty Marine officers or senior enlisted Marines with 18 or more years of active service, including those pending retirement, TERA retirees, or combat-wounded Marines with an approved retirement date.Category II• Marine Corps Reserve officers or senior enlisted Marines who have completed 20 years of honorable service, including SMCR and IRR retirees.Category III• Former Marines in paygrade E-5 (Sergeant) or above with at least 8 years of active serviceand no more than 5 years since separation.Category IVCurrent Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR) Marines in paygrade E-5 or above.All applicants must:• Receive a favorable recommendation from their last reporting senior• Demonstrate good character, leadership, and honorable military service• Meet Marine Corps JROTC physical qualification standards• Be approved and certified by Headquarters Marine Corps MCJROTCEducation RequirementsSenior Marine Instructor (SMI)• Bachelor's degree required• Competitive Marine Corps service recordMarine Instructor (MI)• Associate degree required (or must obtain within five years of hire)• Competitive Marine Corps service recordApplicants must also be eligible to obtain a Rhode Island teaching certificate if required by state or district policy.Job SpecificationsThe successful candidate must demonstrate:• Strong instructional delivery and leadership ability• Excellent communication and mentoring skills• Ability to motivate and inspire high school students• Organizational and administrative skills necessary to manage program requirements• Commitment to the mission of developing responsible citizens and community leadersWorking Conditions and Physical RequirementsMust be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time; operate standard office equipment and computers; communicate effectively in classroom and outdoor environments; and demonstrate physical mobility required for instructional and training activities.
