With communities across Colorado, we are growing rapidly and looking for talented professionals to join our team.Position SummaryThe Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a high-volume residential homebuilding company. This role manages the full accounting cycle for land development, construction costs, and home closings, ensuring accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and company policies.Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral AccountingMaintain the general ledger and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activitiesPrepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entriesReconcile balance sheet accounts, bank statements, and intercompany transactionsAssist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reportsJob Cost & Construction AccountingTrack and analyze job costs by community, lot, and phase, ensuring accurate cost-to-complete reportingMonitor construction draws, subcontractor billings, and purchase order commitments against budgetInvestigate and resolve cost variances between budgeted and actual costsMaintain work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and inventory valuations for homes under constructionLand & Development AccountingRecord land acquisitions, development costs, and lot transfersAllocate common area costs to individual lots in accordance with company methodologyMaintain land held-for-sale and land under development schedulesAccounts Payable & Subcontractor ManagementReview and process subcontractor invoices, ensuring proper lien releases and compliance with contract termsCoordinate with field operations and purchasing teams to resolve billing discrepanciesEnsure timely and accurate payment of trade partners and vendorsHome Closing & Revenue RecognitionProcess home closings in coordination with the escrow/title teamRecord revenue, cost of sales, and warranty reserves upon closingReconcile closing proceeds and buyer depositsCompliance & Audit SupportSupport external audit and tax preparation by providing schedules, documentation, and analysisEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax regulationsAssist with preparation of sales and use tax returns where applicableQualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field2+ years of accounting experience; homebuilding, real estate, or construction industry experience strongly preferredSolid understanding of GAAP, job costing, and inventory accountingProficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlinesPreferredExperience with Newstar (our primary ERP system); proficiency strongly preferredFamiliarity with lien waiver management and construction draw processesExperience with lot-based revenue recognitionCompetenciesAnalytical Thinking — Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvementAccuracy & Attention to Detail — Ensures financial records are complete, accurate, and audit-readyCollaboration — Works effectively with field operations, purchasing, sales, and executive leadershipCommunication — Clearly presents financial information to non-financial stakeholdersAdaptability — Thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with evolving processesWork Environment & BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experienceComprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with company matchPaid time off and company holidaysOpportunities for career growth within a growing homebuilding organization
