Job Title: Transportation Dispatcher Exemption Status/Test: Non-ExemptReports to: Director of Transportation Date Revised: 07/28/2023Dept./School: TransportationPrimary Purpose:This position will be responsible for all aspects of scheduling and coordinating field trips for the districtprimarily in Trip Direct including PK-12th grade during the school year and summer. This will consist ofscheduling buses and drivers for all school field trips and extra-curricular actives. This position will have aschedule of 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM to cover the radio and phones until the evening bus routes return to theirhome campuses. In addition, they must also be able to fill in as a Bus Driver when required which will coveradditional responsibilities.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High School Diploma or GEDClear and valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S)endorsementsSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Must be 18 years of ageAbility to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical examAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addressesAbility to manage student behaviorAbility to communicate effectively with othersAbility to operate busExperience:NoneMajor Responsibilities and Duties: Transportation Dispatcher1. Being attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensuring passenger safety.2. Following the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.3. Regularly checking vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.4. Monitoring and reporting fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.5. Reporting delays, accidents, and emergencies.6. Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.7. Inspecting the vehicle thoroughly before and after each trip.8. Assisting with the loading and unloading of the bus when required.9. Enforcing conduct and safety rules on the bus.10. Maintaining a clean vehicle.11.
