Communications Director

Role DescriptionBrazoria County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Communications Director to plan, direct, and manage all operations of the Sheriff's Office Emergency Communications Center including 9-1-1 call-taking, radio dispatch, and public safety communications systems.This is a full-time on-site position located in Angleton, TX. The Communications Director ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and maintains operational readiness. In addition, the Communications Director also provides leadership, strategic planning, and administrative oversight for personnel, technology systems, and service delivery. This role is responsible for the reliability, efficiency, and integrity of emergency communications that directly impact both officer safety and public safety outcomes.Knowledge & Skills abbreviatedKnowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the local and state criminal justice systemAbility to become proficient in all County and Department policies and proceduresWorking knowledge of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) operationsThorough understanding of FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) Security PolicyKnowledge of CAD/RMS systems, radio communications systems, and call-handling platformsFamiliarity with NIMS/ICS principles and emergency management coordinationAbility to multitask and perform effectively in a constantly changing work environmentAbility to exercise sound judgment and make well-reasoned decisions under high-stress conditionsAbility to maintain strict confidentialityAbility to foster productive, cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, external partners, public officials, and the general publicQualifications The County reserves the right to consider higher levels of education in lieu of training and experience and vice-versaMaster Telecommunication Operation Certification or equivalentBachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Emergency Management, Communications, or a closely related fieldMinimum of 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in public safety communications (dispatch/9-1-1 operations)Minimum of 1-3 years of supervisor or command-level experience within a communications centerCurrent or ability to obtain TCIC/NCIC Full Access CertificationAPCO or NENA Certifications (e.g. RPL, ENP, CMCP) preferredExperience managing CAD/RMS implementation or major technology projects (preferred)Experience with budgeting and capital planning preferredAgency DescriptionOur mission is to provide effective and efficient law enforcement, detention, civil and court security services to the residents and visitors of Brazoria County.
