Senior Tax Accountant

Job DescriptionAbout the Role:As a Senior - Indirect Tax at RELX Group, you will play a critical role in managing indirect tax advisory, strategy, risk mitigation, and tax technology initiatives across a diverse portfolio of business units. You will partner with internal stakeholders, lead audit support activities, assess and manage tax risk, and drive process improvement through technology and cross‑functional collaboration. This highly visible role requires strong communication, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with globally cross-functional teams.Responsibilities:Business Partnering & CommunicationPartner with external advisors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to resolve complex tax issues and communicate findings to stakeholders.Support the RELX and LN Tax Help Desks and LN Dispute Management System, with a particular focus on LN‑related tax inquiries.Review customer contracts and business proposals for tax implications and provide clear, actionable guidance to legal, finance, and commercial teams.Communicate relevant process updates, system changes, and significant tax developments to stakeholders across the RELX organization.Audit Support & Risk ManagementServe as a primary contact for indirect tax audits and regulatory inquiries. Analyze issues, assess risk, prepare required documentation, and develop strategies to minimize exposure.Support the review and tax classification of new or migrated RELX products and services, ensuring proper tax treatment and system integration.Identify potential compliance risks and proactively propose mitigation strategies.Tax Technology & Process ImprovementLead and support indirect tax technology initiatives, including implementation and enhancement of systems such as SOVOS/Taxware, Vertex, Avalara, and other relevant tools.Collaborate with IT and finance teams to test, validate, and document tax‑related system enhancements or regulatory changes.Maintain and update RELX taxability matrices and system documentation in alignment with evolving business and regulatory requirements.Leadership & Subject Matter ExpertiseMentor and support junior team members and share subject matter expertise to strengthen team capability.Participate in or lead cross‑functional initiatives, including billing migrations, business continuity planning, and system upgrades.Stay current on US and global indirect tax developments, including legislative trends and emerging industry issues.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. J.D, MST, Master’s are a plus.Progressive indirect tax experience, ideally within a global, matrixed organization.Excellent technical expertise in US state and local sales/use tax; international VAT/GST experience is a plus.Experience working with major tax technology systems (SOVOS/Taxware, Vertex, Avalara). Advanced Excel proficiency.Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills in a dynamic environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across cultures and business units.Proven ability to drive process improvements and adapt to regulatory changes.
