LPN Correctional Facility Nurse

!!!!!!!DAY SHIFT POSITION ROTATING WEEKENDS!!!!!!!! CORRECTIONS POSITION *SUMMARY* Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing, the staff nurse will deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established BPPJ medical policies and procedures while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. *ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* DISCLAIMER: The above description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job. The description shall not, however, be construed as a complete listing of all duties which may be required from day-to-day. * Administer medications and treatments accurately as ordered by the physician and according to all facility policies and procedures. * Obtain vitals, accurate and thorough medical history and current medication regimen upon intake. * Document completely and concisely all care, interventions and outcomes in appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. * Collaborate with the physician and other members of the health care team to ensure continuity of care. * Is responsible for recognizing, responding and determine the appropriate level of care for emergency situations * Promotes a therapeutic environment to ensure inmates are treated in a professional, ethical and tactful manner * Maintains inmate medical care confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA regulations * Responsible for reporting inventory and clinic needs to Director of Clinical Operations * Performs other position-related duties as assigned *QUALIFICATIONS* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * *Licensed Practical Nurse with adequate experience (LPN Licensure is required/no exceptions).* * Valid license by state in which will practice * Prior correctional clinical nursing experience highly preferred. * Minimum 1 year med-surg, clinic or nursing home experience * Diplomacy in dealing with patients, deputies and the public. MUST HAVE BLS CERTIFICATION *KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES* The qualified nurse will possess excellent communication, critical thinking and assessment skills. Will be reliable and punctual as well as able to perform her/his job duties autonomously. Must be assertive, empathetic and able to provide care objectively while serving this special population. *CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS* Incumbent must possess a current unencumbered Louisiana or compact nursing license Incumbent must possess valid AHA BLS certification *PHYSICAL DEMANDS* The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
